ecoworks and Prefab Home Manufacturer Oikos Group Form Strategic Partnership to Advance Climate-Neutral Renovation

Berlin, January 29, 2024 – ecoworks GmbH, the innovation leader in serial climate-neutral renovation, and the Oikos Group (Bien-Zenker, Hanse Haus, Living Haus), one of the largest prefabricated house manufacturers in Europe, have announced a strategic partnership. Oikos Group will support ecoworks as a manufacturing partner for facade elements in numerous projects. Additionally, both companies are collaborating on standardization and automation efforts to bring the expertise of the prefab housing industry into climate-neutral serial renovation.
The strategic partnership brings together the experience of approximately 2,000 employees across both companies.
“We have spent several years working to bring a leading prefab housing manufacturer on board. With the Oikos Group, a heavyweight in the European industry will now be producing for us and developing the technology with us,” says Emanuel Heisenberg, CEO of ecoworks. “Our goal is to reduce the cost of our solution and improve quality through standardization.”
Marco Hammer, CEO of the Oikos Group, emphasized the significance for his company:
“The partnership with ecoworks allows us to enter a new, fast-growing customer segment. As a prefab house provider, we bring extensive and relevant experience that can significantly benefit climate-neutral serial renovation.”
The companies have already signed their first joint project in Berlin, renovating a typical 1970s apartment block that exists in thousands of copies across Germany. In the coming years, at least 10 million aging and energy-inefficient housing units in Germany's multifamily sector will require renovation—a market worth up to one trillion euros.
ecoworks develops software as well as facade and roof systems to transform outdated multifamily homes into attractive, climate-neutral housing within just a few weeks of construction time. The company is making a significant contribution to rapidly reducing emissions in the building sector and decreasing reliance on fossil fuels. ecoworks is recognized as one of the global pioneers in this new technology.
The Oikos Group, headquartered in Schlüchtern and active not only in its core market of Germany but also in Austria, Switzerland, and the UK, increased its revenue to over €624 million by 2023. It has established itself as one of Europe's leading providers of prefabricated housing, with a strong and innovative product and brand portfolio. As a top European prefab home manufacturer, Oikos is committed to using its scale, innovative approach, and ambition to set new sustainability benchmarks, drive the sector forward, and shape the future of housing.
Decarbonizing the construction industry is key to achieving global climate targets. The sector accounts for 36% of global energy consumption and half of all raw material usage. In Germany alone, the building sector must reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 46% by 2030 to reach net-zero emissions by 2045.
