Meet the ecoworkys: Andrei Mihalache

Andrei Mihalache – Site Manager with Vision and Optimism

Serial renovation requires smart technology – and, above all, a strong team on-site. One of these makers is Site Manager Andrei Mihalache. He represents the DNA that drives our entire team at ecoworks every single day.
Since 2024, the graduate surveying engineer has been bringing millimeter-precision to our construction sites. But what truly sets our teams apart is the way challenges are solved: even when things get hectic, Andrei remains the calm in the storm. He rolls up his sleeves, keeps the big picture in mind, and ensures a great atmosphere with his optimism. A true team player who makes sure everyone involved feels completely supported.

Precision in sight, the future in mind: Andrei Mihalache installing innovative facade elements.

We met with Andrei for an in-depth conversation to learn more about his motivation, his daily life between innovation and disappearing folding rules, and his vision for the year 2030.

Why ecoworks? The drive for real change

For Andrei, joining ecoworks was a conscious decision to make an impact. In an industry that often clings to old patterns, he was looking for a role that went beyond traditional construction. When asked what ultimately convinced him, he answers without hesitation:

“Because I wanted to be part of real change. ecoworks combines sustainability with innovation, and it was exactly this combination of purpose, technology, and team spirit that won me over.”

This triad of values forms the foundation of his daily work. It’s not just about meeting deadlines; it’s about establishing a system that revolutionizes building renovation. He is driven by one main goal: “To see how planning becomes reality and how our projects create real impact for the climate and for people.” When theory transitions from paper to practice and the first residents benefit from new energy efficiency, that is his greatest success.

Between “Mission: Possible” and Team Dynamics

Anyone stepping onto an ecoworks construction site quickly notices a special dynamic. When you ask Andrei for a fitting title for the daily routine on-site, a good deal of drive resonates: “Mission: Possible – Systemic Renovation.”The fact that this mission succeeds every day is, according to Andrei, primarily due to the chemistry within the team. It is a network of specialists all pulling in the same direction.

“What do I value most about my team? The strong sense of cohesion and the hands-on mentality. Everyone brings their expertise to the table, but no one is too proud to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in.”

Andrei himself plays a key role that goes beyond technical matters. In an environment where schedules are tight and demands are high, he is the emotional anchor. One quality that particularly distinguishes him isn’t found in any official job description: “I remain optimistic even in stressful phases and enjoy making sure there’s a good mood within the team in between tasks.”This positive energy is also reflected in his choice for the unofficial “site anthem.” He would dedicate the song “Auf uns” by Andreas Bourani to the industry – for one simple reason: “Because we tackle things together, achieve great things, and can ultimately be proud of what remains.”

Innovation meets craftsmanship: What we can learn

Working at ecoworks is a constant learning curve for Andrei. Serial renovation is pioneering work, and that means finding new solutions to complex problems every day. He describes his most important takeaway so far:

“How much potential there is in modern renovation – technically, organizationally, and humanly. And that good planning and teamwork on-site are just as important as innovation.”

Yet, it’s often the small, human quirks of everyday life that challenge the Site Manager. Despite state-of-the-art digital planning, some things will probably never change. When asked which tool most frequently gets “borrowed” and then disappears as if by magic, he laughs: “Definitely the folding rule! It seems to have a talent for spontaneously changing owners.” These anecdotes show that despite all the high-tech facades, real craftsmanship is still at the heart of it.

To the millimeter: Here, the folding rule is still safe in Andrei’s hand.

A glimpse into the future (and at the construction fence)

As a Site Manager, Andrei juggles logistics, trades, and schedules every day. If he could choose a superpower, the decision would be purely pragmatic: “To be able to freeze time – so that we always have enough of it on-site to implement every detail perfectly.” And if time manipulation doesn’t work out? Then the ability for ultimate coordination would be his wish: “To be able to coordinate all trades perfectly at the same time; with one snap of the fingers, everything runs in sync.”

Despite the daily challenges, Andrei never loses sight of the big goal. He isn’t just building for today, but for the generations of tomorrow. When he thinks about the year 2030 and imagines what should be written on the ecoworks construction fence banners, he has a clear vision:

“Existing buildings saved. Future secured.”
