Nürnberg – Schweidnitzer & Militscher Straße
As part of a pioneering serial renovation project, three residential buildings from 1966 on Schweidnitzer Straße and Militscher Straße in Nuremberg have been comprehensively modernized. The partnership between ecoworks and Dawonia aimed to set new benchmarks in sustainable building renovation through serial renovation, drastically reduce energy consumption across 72 apartments, and create high-quality, sustainable housing.

Overview
The Challenge:
Three multi-family buildings on Schweidnitzer Straße and Militscher Straße in Nuremberg, built in 1966, showed high energy losses with efficiency ratings of E and F and an urgent need for modernization – a typical picture for residential buildings of that era. The goal of the project by ecoworks and Dawonia was to bring the buildings up to the latest energy standards, achieve the KfW-Effizienzhaus-55-NH standard, and significantly improve living comfort for residents.
The Approach:
At the core was a comprehensive energy retrofit based on serial renovation principles. Key measures included the installation of the prefabricated ecoworks facade system – delivered factory-ready including insulation, windows, and ventilation –, efficient insulation of basement ceilings and the top-floor ceiling, and a specially developed insulation solution for the loggia areas. The elements were installed without scaffolding using mobile work platforms – an efficient method that accelerated work in the occupied buildings and significantly reduced disruption for residents. New balconies completed the scope of work and further enhanced living quality.
The Result:
The energy efficiency of the buildings was upgraded from classes E/F to B; the KfW-Effizienzhaus-55-NH standard was achieved. Energy demand is projected to decrease by 56.7% – a significant benefit for residents, who will see substantially reduced energy costs. The project by ecoworks and Dawonia stands for modern, comfortable housing and climate-friendly, future-proof renovation of existing buildings.
