Merseburg – Straße des Friedens
A comprehensive modernization was carried out at a building on Straße des Friedens in Merseburg, setting the stage for a more sustainable future. In partnership with TAG Immobilien AG, ecoworks implemented serial renovation methods and advanced technologies to upgrade the property. The project focused on boosting energy efficiency, sharply lowering energy use, and quickly creating climate-friendly living spaces that are built to last.

Overview
The Challenge:
Built in 1958, the residential building in Merseburg includes 32 apartments across 2,144 m² and displayed the typical shortcomings of its time: major energy loss from poor insulation, outdated building systems, and an appearance that no longer met modern expectations. This is a familiar scenario in many post-war housing estates. The goal was to dramatically boost energy efficiency and improve living comfort through a thorough serial renovation, while also setting a new benchmark for sustainable, potentially climate-neutral housing.
The Approach:
The renovation followed the ecoworks standard, focusing on serial upgrades. A new, highly insulating façade with a 160 mm thick core wall was installed, greatly improving thermal performance and giving the building a fresh, contemporary look. On the entrance side, eight prefabricated MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) modules were added to efficiently house all essential building systems. For the roof, insulation was optimized to preserve the existing structure while significantly increasing energy efficiency. To further enhance quality of life, the original balconies were replaced with modern, prefabricated aluminum systems.
The Result:
This comprehensive modernization establishes a new benchmark in the housing sector. The building now boasts much higher energy efficiency, a modern appearance, and greater living comfort thanks to new balconies and upgraded building technology. The Merseburg project is a strong example of how thoughtful serial renovation can lead to sustainable, potentially climate-neutral living—delivering real value for residents, property owners, and the broader industry.
